Specifically, the two themes of international research collaboration and research productivity will be discussed as major stratifying forces, dividing academics into different strata and institutions, through rankings, into different tiers. The presentation will also discuss the advantages of major methodologies in examining the academic profession, from surveys to interviews to bibliometric studies.
